Holiday Trip to NYC and Christmas 2010

Welcome to our family blog!  Well, 2010 is officially OVER! I can't believe it. We traveled to New York to visit my side of the family. We stayed at Betty and Shaji's house and had a great time!

Malia did a lot of neat things on the trip....she said the word "watch" for the first time! She also has been doing more sign language....she for some reason learned the sign for "shoe" and keeps doing it. I don't think I even taught her that one. I think she saw it on a video a few times  and picked it up! Meanwhile, here I am trying to teach her "please" and "thank you" over and over again! Kids just surprise you!

She also was able to hang out with her Uncle Shaj for the first time...I think they really bonded! Uncle Arun and Bessie Kochamma spoiled Malia too...she loves her new Elmo toy! I mean, really, what girl wouldn't? She also spent some quality time with her Houston Ammachi and Appachan (grandparents).

We survived the blizzard of 2010! It was a record breaking blizzard in New York...we were driving into the city and saw cars stranded left and right. The adventurers that we are, decided to keep on trekking into the city. Well, once we arrived there, we knew we probably should have turned around. The streets were covered with snow. We couldn't even tell where the sidewalks were! We decided to eat at the only joint that was open and nearby. The ambience was good and the service was great because we were one of the few people at the restaurant! Everything was pretty much shut down and a lot of the employees were being sent home because of the weather. First clue.

Our trek back home was a little intense to say the least. Shaji was driving and could barely see five feet in front of him! We had to stop every ten minutes to get rid of ice on the windshields. Once we made the long journey back into Betty's neighborhood, our car decided that there was too much snow and stopped. Eeek! Bessie, Betty, and I had to walk the rest of the way home while the guys moved the car. The walk back in knee high snow for three vertically challenged sisters (okay, 2 vertically challenged sisters) was actually kind of fun! We couldn't see much of the roads or sidewalks. The snow was piled high up to the mailboxes. Talk about interesting!!!!

We decided to extend our stay for a few days and not risk having any major flight delays at the airport. Glad we stayed!  Overall, it was a fun, enjoyable, and exciting trip!
